Dominic Williams finishes 21st at State Finals

Congratulations to Sophomore Dominic Williams for his 21st place finish at the FHSAA Cross-Country Class 3A State Finals. Dominic's time of 16:00.69 in the 5k race tops his personal record, previously a 16:11 set his freshman year. This marks the second year that Dominic has competed at the State Championships following in a trend of Lee High School runners who competed in consecutive State Finals recently. Jonathan Esteban competed in the FHSAA State Finals for the Generals in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Chris Haynes competed in the FHSAA State Finals in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Of significance, Dominic was the 3rd fastest Sophomore completing the race and 9th fastest of all runners eligible to return next season.

Dominic Williams headed to State Championship

Sophomore Dominic Williams will travel to Tallahassee this Saturday to compete in the FHSAA Class 3A Finals. Dominic placed 13th overall at the Class 3A Region 1 meet this past Saturday, November 2 to individually qualify with a National Elite time of 16:26.29. Dominic has yet to surpass his personal best of 16:11 this season and is looking to run his peak time this coming weekend.

Senior Rayford James ran exceptionally, but narrowly missed individually qualifying with a 19th place finish. James' finish was something to be proud of, as he ran against what was considered the deepest competition for a Regional meet in the entire state. One 2A coach stated after the race, "That race was insane! I've never seen such a fast race before." Of the meet finishers 74 runners completed the certified 5k course in less than the competitive time of 18 minutes. James though finished in 16:38 for the 5k.

Also competing at Regional Championships for the Generals were Ky're Griffis, John Hutton, Buay Deng, Kris Small, and Chris Curry.

Boys make Regional Championships, Seana Edwards posts top time

Congratulations to the Boys Cross-Country team who qualified for the FHSAA Regional Championship this Saturday. The boys edged out Tallahassee Lincoln by 7 points to qualify. Sophomore Dominic Williams ran his top time finishing first for the Generals and fourth overall in 16:12 for the 5k race and a National Elite performance. Williams proved too much for Senior Rayford James, who was beaten by Dominic for only the second time this season. James finished second for the Generals and 11th overall with a 16:34. Continuing his move up the top times list Freshman Ky're Griffis made a huge impact for the Generals with a 17:56 performance, placing him 8th all-time. Finishing out strong for the Generals Regional Championship qualifying team were Buay Deng (18:53.78), John Hutton (19:10.98), Kris Small (19:38.04), and Chris Curry (19:42.81). Of note, Buay's performance moved him to 21st all-time for Lee High School Cross-Country.

Also competing for the Lady Generals were Brenee Cummings (26:18.48), who improved her personal best by almost 30 seconds, and Creshanda Foy (33:28.59).

James, Williams go 1-2 at Ponte Vedra Invitational

Senior Rayford James and Sophomore Dominic Williams finished first and second, respectfully, at the Ponte Vedra Invitational on Saturday. Senior Rayford James won the meet posting his second fastest time of 16:27.4 for the meet's only male National Elite time. Just behind was Dominic Williams, posting his fastest time of the season at 16:35.3, finishing around 100 meters ahead of the 3rd place finisher.

Freshman Ky're Griffis finished third for the Generals running the 9th fastest 5k in school history at 18:08.1 in his first race as a General.
